I’ve heard a lot lately from a company called Copy.ai. Its founder Paul Yacoubian did some amazing things with AI in content marketing.
Copy.ai is an AI copywriting tool that claims to save you time and increase conversion rates. Their homepage states that the tool will end writer’s block and generate marketing texts in seconds.
It can’t generate whole blog posts with one click, but it can create blog titles, outlines, paragraph references, intros and outs, and the like.
We decided to put this AI content generator to the test with a full copy.ai review. We tested it to see how AI technology could hold up.
Is the content really good? Can AI content exist for human authors? Let’s find out.

What is Copy.AI?
Copy.ai was founded in 2020, according to Linkedin, and employs 16 people, mostly in the US.
For a little over a year the traction looks good. Crunchbase reveals that the team raised a $ 2.9 million startup fund from a few different investors like Adam Morley and Sequoia Capital.
Who is the tool best for?
Copy.ai is best for digital marketers and online business owners who want to speed up their copywriting processes. It specializes in generating content for websites, landing pages, sales letters, and social media.
It mainly focuses on 5 or 6 different types of services:
- Product descriptions – ideal for e-commerce stores
- Social media posts and ads – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
- Website Copy – Blog Post, Outline, Meta Description, etc. Ideas
- Sales copy – for use on websites, in emails, etc.
- Email content – for use in autoresponders, funnels, or whatever
They seem to specialize in creating content that is no longer than a paragraph or two, rather than being able to spit out an entire 1500 word article.
The tool also has a “Fun Personal Tools” section that lets you create a love letter or birthday card using AI, along with a variety of other types of content.
How to use Copy.ai
Getting started with Copy.ai is very easy.
The platform is very clean and easy and intuitive to use. In addition, their YouTube channel has plenty of well-produced video tutorials that will walk you step by step through making any type of copy you may need.
Here’s a look at the inside of Copy.ai and how to use some of its features.
Let’s say I want to make a list of blog ideas to get started.
You need to enter your product / brand name and then describe the product. Even though it says “Product / Brand” I’ve found that incorporating themes into the inputs works just as well.
For this example I decided to write a post on ‘SEO Tools’. I put the details in Copy.ai to add a few bullet points to the information.
Here are the results it generated.
Not a bad list. I could actually imagine writing a post based on one of these.
I can click the love heart to put it in my saved folder, copy the text to the clipboard, or create more based on the result that I like the most.
Next, I tested the Bullet Points to Blog feature. I’ve put in a few bullet points to get started.
You can see that there is a lot more content in the results.
It’s nowhere near an entire blog post, but it could be of great help for someone with a minor writer’s block. Once the tool has created the content, you can make it sound a little more natural and check its accuracy.
The tool seems to be very good at generating ideas and structures for content, as well as creating short texts that are pretty easy to read!
Grammar and spelling
Much effort has gone into improving machine learning algorithms to achieve more natural looking content generation. It’s not perfect yet, but it’s gotten a lot better over the past few years.
Grammar is great for identifying specific grammatical errors in your writing and marking them for further review.
To test how good the copy generated by Ai was, I let the paragraphs through Grammarly. Surprisingly, it did pretty well, getting an overall rating of 94%.

These are the writing problems that came back from a single paragraph. There were some incorrect determiners and punctuation marks, along with an engagement bug (which I usually ignore in Grammarly) and a minor clarity issue.
The grammar itself isn’t the best judge of the quality of the content, but if you are familiar with the tool you will know that, in general, it means that the content is acceptable. It may only take a few changes to incorporate it into your voice or to suit your preferred writing style.
When it comes to plagiarism with the AI copy, Grammarly found 17% plagiarism.
This seems a bit high, especially if you’re used to checking longer blog posts for plagiarism. I find these usually come back with a plagiarism rate of 1 or 2% (which is usually from completely unrelated content). However, since I’ve tested such a small one, it makes sense.
I ran four more tests on other paragraphs generated by Copy.ai to see if they gave better results. They did plagiarism in all four tests with 0%.
When it comes to AI generated text, accuracy and truthfulness can be a big problem.
For example, if you blog about survival knives but the content comes back with kitchen knives, the reader is sure to be confused.
Or there is the example in the screenshot above. I asked the tool to create a blog outline for “Can Dogs Eat Snails?” You can see that there have been different outlines that have very different results.
In an overview, the conclusion is “Yes, dogs can eat snails”. While in another the conclusion is “snails are bad for your dog’s health”. The question is what is true? Which one is right?
You would actually have to do further research on primary sources to find out if dogs really can eat snails (the answer in all likelihood is yes, but no, don’t make it a habit).
For the SEO related article I tested, I was happy with the results. Everything seemed relevant, accurate, and true for the most part.

And over time, we can expect more features to be introduced and the tool to improve overall.
All in all, my first impressions and experiences with Copy.ai are that it can be a useful and helpful tool for the right person.
It can be a way to motivate yourself to write when you’re not feeling too creative or when you have a lot of shorter content to spend quickly.
In the case of certain topics – especially those relating to the health and well-being of humans and animals – the truthfulness and correctness must be checked. Most of the time, however, it’s fine.
I’ve found it to work better on general topics than more specific topics, but I think with more effort I could learn to use it more effectively. For example, it generated nonsense on a certain product, but it was much better at generating content on the product category.
At this point, it probably isn’t for the person who wants the best content. If all you need is something to put in a product description or social media post and you don’t worry too much about the quality, then all is well. But as far as creating really good content goes, I don’t think it’s there yet.
No other writing tool either. It’s great to start on a blog post, but don’t expect the AI writer to write high quality content without a hitch.

The 7 day free trial doesn’t require a credit card to sign up and is really helpful in getting a feel for the tool. You’re limited to 100 runs a day, but that’s more than enough to tell if it’s good for your business.
A “Run” is simply a click of the “Create” button once you have started using the tool. This means, for example, that during your free trial you can create 100 blog post sketches a day.

Who knows where online business and blogging will lead? But I don’t expect content writers and content agencies to become unemployed any time soon!
