WordPress has always been easy to use, and installing a favicon is as easy as it gets.

Log into your WordPress dashboard and select Customize under the Appearance section.

Enter the word “favicon” in the search bar and select the “Real Favicon Generator” plugin. Next, press the “Install Now” button and click “Activate”.

Add favicon manually via FTP

Another way to learn how to change the favicon in WordPress is to do it manually via FTP. Once you have your favicon image, you need to upload the files via FTP (File Protocol Transfer).

Step 1.

Go to the favicon generator and select the favicon icon image you will be using.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the option to add the favicon files to the root of your website. Also, click the Generate Favicon and HTML Files button.

You will then see instructions on how to manually install your favicon files. But first, download the package, extract the files and upload them to the root of your website in the same folder as your wp-content and wp-admin files.

You will use FTP to upload the files and you will need an FTP client like Filezilla to get the job done. (See your host’s welcome email for the hosting details you need to access your website files. If you don’t have the email, contact your host to get your FTP to get login credentials.)

After extracting the files and adding them to the website root, you need to paste the provided code into the head section of your website.

The last way to change the favicon in WordPress is via cPanel. It’s not much different than using FTP, except that you don’t need an FTP client. Instead of connecting to your website’s backend files via FTP, do so via cPanel.

Step 1.

Create a favicon or use an existing one with Favicon Generator For Real software.

Step 2.

Click the button at the bottom of the page to generate the HTML files.

Step 3.

Upload the favicon files to the same folder as the WP Admin and WP Content files, but this time use cPanel.

Select the public_html folder and you will then see the root directory of your website which contains the WordPress files. Here you can upload the extracted favicon files.

You click the Upload button at the bottom of the page and select the files on your hard drive.
